Finding a Home for Every Pound of Rescued Produce

We often focus on how much food we waste at home, but the biggest contributor to food waste is actually corporations and supermarkets. As part of our mission to curb food waste, we take a look at what we can do on a larger scale to offset millions of pounds of food waste.

At the end of the day, whether our produce feeds people or animals, we know it is not adding another pound to food waste in our environment. Every season we redistribute 3-5 million pounds of rescued produce through our recyling partners.

Borderlands' Produce Recycling Programs

Potpourri for Animals and Composting

Borderlands' P.A.C. program allows for local ranchers and composting or mulching groups to pick-up perishing produce for their programs. All produce is picked-up directly from our Nogales, AZ warehouse. To participate in our P.A.C. program please ask for an application at our warehouse.

Recycle Produce by the Truckload

We often partner with recycling groups from around Arizona; to participate you can hire your own truck to pick-up an entire trailer load of perishing produce for your programs. To participate please call us directly at 520-287-2627

Pick-Up at Borderlands' P.O.W.W.O.W.

If you want to get your hands on perished produce, but can't make the drive to Nogales, AZ, you can always ask for perished produce at any of our Borderlands' P.O.W.W.O.W. market locations. Come out to any of our Saturday locations and take home any perished produce we have set aside for your chickens and animals.

All of our work is only possible thanks to your donations. One of the biggests costs associated with our work is paying for diesel for our fleet of 6 tractor trailers. We often have requests from our recycling partners to deliver truckloads of produce, however we are unable to due to the high cost of transportation.
